Following the evaluation, a detailed written report is prepared. Reports are generally completed within 3 weeks, although timelines may vary depending on the case. The final report will include any relevant diagnoses, a thorough discussion of the parent’s strengths and challenges, and clear, evidence-based recommendations regarding parenting capacity, reunification potential, and needed services or supports. The evaluation aims to provide clear, objective findings that support decision-making in the best interest of the child.

Parental Capacity/Fitness Evaluations

Parental fitness evaluations are comprehensive assessments designed to determine a parent’s psychological, emotional, and behavioral functioning as it relates to their ability to provide safe, stable, and appropriate care for their child. These evaluations consider a range of factors including mental health history, parenting practices, attachment and bonding, substance use, history of trauma or abuse, and any concerns related to neglect or abuse allegations. The evaluation process includes a thorough review of relevant records, clinical interview, psychological testing, and collateral information as appropriate.

The evaluation typically requires 4–6 hours of face-to-face time with the parent. We use empirically-supported assessment tools and structured clinical protocols to ensure the evaluation is both objective and comprehensive. Parental fitness evaluations may be requested in cases involving child welfare concerns, custody disputes, or court-ordered assessments related to reunification or parental rights.
